Diary Of A Hip Lil Sprout

One of our favorite and hardest to obtain brands is Amanda Thrall's Liboosha. Inspired by bright, bohemian fabrics, Liboosha has become a must have name in every Hip Sprout's wardrobe. We asked Amanda a couple questions to get to know her and her colorful line a little better.

Diary of a Hip Lil Sprout: How did you first get started with Liboosha?

Amanda Thrall: I've been selling my own things for about six years now. First it was art, then hand dyed baby clothes, then moccasins and Liboosha was born. Many of my customers probably know me from Happy and the Hectic. H&H was my dream come true. I learned so many things, met so many people and it literally changed my life. The sad part of it was that it never really felt like my success. I struggled with it all the time and soon the market was saturated and it didn't feel so amazing anymore. Getting back to clothing was always somewhere in the plans and last summer I discovered an array of vintage textiles that inspired me. I felt as though they spoke to my soul and it was love at first sight. So I ordered a ton, hired a seamstress and got to work on Liboosha. 

DHLS: Where did you come up with your brand name?

AT: When I was in search of the perfect name, I knew that I wanted to tap into the deepest part of my Bohemian heritage. So I researched for quite awhile until I came across Libuśe. She was a legendary queen of Bohemia who was said to have the power to predict the future. Something just clicked. It was again everything I wanted and so it was set. Although, I did change the spelling to "Liboosha" for the ease of pronounciation. 

DHLS: How were you inspired by your recent trip to Thailand?

AT: After many months of ordering these textiles online I asked my best friend to fly across the world with me to Thailand so I could shop in person. I must say it was a lot easier said than done and the hunt for these places took us off the beaten path. But it was an experience that I will never forget and I cannot wait to repeat it. 

DHLS: Where do you see Liboosha in 5 years?

AT: I've created an entire brand around these textiles and I have learned and experienced so much just from these pieces of fabric alone. I love watching them get new life on the little souls that carry them and the smiles that I can only hope they bring. However, I am discovering quickly that I am not the only one who feels this way and I see the fabrics popping up everywhere. If there is one thing I learned from H&H, it is that I don't want Liboosha to look like any other brand. Being one of a kind is something I strive for in a brand more than anything. And so, what I predict in the future of Liboosha is our own curated textiles by combining all of the things I have learned over the years. I'd like to bring them all together to have truly unique textiles but to also maintain the importance of handmade and breathing new life into old techniques. Overall, I am at my studio everyday because I believe in this brand.

DHLS: What inspires you? 

AT: I am inspired by all things but what most inspires me are my children. And the people who make it all possible are my customers and their incredibly beautiful babies.
